181...Sonnet XCV FLOODGATE
Rooted long ago in keen observations
discreet barriers were slowly erected;
irreverent dams built to prevent
streams of emotions into a commitment.
You pulled levers and pushed buttons
to release the waters meant for two;
but my arrogant vanity kept its seal
and when you had done all you can do
you gave up...and I was left with a sea
with no rivers or a brook to breathe.
It was me who pushed open within you
the floodgates of resentment against me
to consume my conceit and drown my sin,
by losing you...and become the man I should be.
