115...Sonnet LXXIII

On my own I am but not alone.
Neither lost…but home within a home.
Study my words if you care to,
vicariously examine what I own.

Peace of mind secured in knowledge
not of man the kind all too well known.
The reasons surrounding joy and pain
enveloped in what matters the most.

A sound fertile mind grows in light.
The confused one lingers in darkness.
The tree of life has its place rooted

deep within me defined with purpose.
Examine mine and why I may well be;
despised for not being like the rest.

114...Sonnet LXXII

Let me pour my heart out to you
so we may feel each others pain.
Come give me a hug I so long for
to be filled with your love the same.

Come hold me tight so I can cry.
Squeeze out tears welled up long ago.
Hold me close to feel the warmth
this kind of love is prone to show.

Come bring your hug of yesteryear,
today, from out of the shadows.
So I can identify being alive,

not victimized by a given sorrow.
If I’ve not yet made myself clear…“Come!”
give me a hug that shapes tomorrow.

113...Sandy and Laura

Uninvited guest she was who came
Obtrusive intruder into his home,
To sweep him and the rest off their feet,
Make a name for herself well known.

She grew unkind and intolerable,
No stranger to the neighborhood,
Old Captain Jack seen her kind before
Cloaked in ominous tides of doom.

Overbearing grey complexion
Steeped in hazardous shades of bleak,
A surge of fear loomed out of the sea
Breaching barriers of protected peace.

Flooding her mark with confusion,
Emergency calling card disclosed,
With roars of chaos in her tone
Signature creeping waters rolled.

Up to his knees in pessimism
Soaked in groans of anxiety;
Indeed she was in no mood to leave
Before imposing her calamity.

A clamor carried by the wind
Journeyed to unsettle a conscience,
Tuned-in to the frequency
Of a distress call sent by providence.

Rushing to meet instincts head on
With a singular purpose and drive,
Old Captain Jack from down the road,
A recluse by the shore came to mind.

Laura perceiving Sandy's ill will
And Jack's plight evoking distraught;
A land-line became the lifeline,
Love for your fellow man the cause.

A lone phone stood to be answered
Through murky waters above the knees;
Disoriented by the darkness
Picked up to hear an angel speak.

“Don't worry I’ll be there soon"
I am your neighbor he was told.
In a nick of time to rescue
What Sandy came to take and boast.

On that day two unexpected visitors
Descended upon his sensibilities;
One pushed him inch by inch to sleep,
The other pulled him out of the deep.

It seems those old bones still matter
Of the highest value to love offered.
An angel made that perfectly clear
When love saved the day to remember.

Authors comments; Dedicated to Laura and John who’s unselfish acts of love and human compassion became Angels in their own right and found their way, especially into the hearts they have touched. These humble words are my tribute to them and the true story that unfolded when the cyclone named Sandy came October 29, 2012

112...Keystone

A key...a stone

a place...a home.

Key is wisdom.

Stone is strength.

Place is the center.

Home

is what the key opens.

111...Sonnet LXXI

Mine eyes wide open I regard what was
in shades of rue formed reminiscing.
As spoken long ago in the annals of time
I can hear her words never listened.

Oh! How she yearned poems from me.
Astute woman intriguingly discerned
what was yet unexplored at the time,
a vocabulary lying dormant.

As often she quietly pleaded;
what existed in me was ascertained.
Requited love was unsustainable.

The first paradise lost was misplaced.
Once upon a time a muse lay hidden,
now with something to say ... it's all too late.

110...New York Minute XIV: Hypothesis

Taking in the sights by day
not of the kind promoted.
Insights from acute angles
prompts curious attention.

Concrete grass and steel trees,
gray is the color of a city.
A sea of cars embody
waves of noise driving plenty.

Horizons can only be perceived
through slivers and rooftop peeks.
Hera over the harbor
standing as Lady Liberty

brilliantly displayed magnet
deviating compasses.
Beyond steep stories of glass
reflections of a hypothesis.

109...Garden of my Heart

Oh garden of my heart... Eden lost,
let thy flowers reign abundantly in me.
Let the  fragrance of efflorescence
come alive in nature’s colors free.

Fashion a smile rooted in contentment
as purposed from the beginning of time,
caressing  fields of remembrances
nestled in the quarters of my mind.

Perfect wisdom permits us beauty
in the flower and the butterfly to behold.
Short-lived wonders gifted to remind us
it does not last forever as we've been told.

Love is the bouquet you freely give
defined in caring  moments that matter.
Sun shall shine upon each... as you ponder
memories blooming as precious flowers.

108...Sonnet LXX

I wonder if your heart palpitates
wildly on the wings of anticipation
when I speak of you with notable class,
seducing your mind with admiration?

Do you tremble with excitement as I do,
when immersed in these inspirations sought?
Cognizant of the fact to whom they’re written,
flattered by compositions of loving thoughts.

It is still you who gives this art life.
Terms of endearment forged together
as a symphony with precious notes,

ballads for you to remember and favor.
A voice reasoning in the wind with verses,
that flow with passion like the river.

107...Sonnet LXIX

I am a better being than I was as man.
Understand you those in the know.
The rest will remain to rationalize
what fits in the mind to go and boast.

The heart is ignored left by the wayside.
Doubts and fears are for you to own.
Slim chance to none you can perceive
pride is of the mind and your alter ego.

Love is of the heart and the rich soul.
No depositions, scientific data to relinquish,
classified documents or mysteries to uncover.

Love is beyond our self, lost deep within.
“I” is no more but “am” has discovered
a cornerstone of good indeed exists.

106...Sonnet LXVIII

“She’s not better… to me she’s the best.”
Since you’ve asked; “quite above the rest.”
Unique as I see her in my simple mind
with an aura only a few have caressed.

This most of all will be hard to rival,
unforgettable in a hundred ways.
The essence of woman exudes all about
with alluring charm, aspects and grace.

She powers my flight of imagination,
circles the comforts of my secrets.
Reluctant admission if you will, but

your questions merit sincere answers at best.
Please don’t anticipate a quick change of heart,
truth be told; it’s unbelievably hard to pretend.

105...Sonnet LXVII

I’ve come to complete your sentences,
fill the blanks of where words belong
I’ve come to dress your soul with mine.
Bring happiness that’ll make you strong.

All the while destiny ruled and set us apart
never were you distant from my thoughts.
Ever since forgiveness reigned in my heart
the tides of love never ceased at all

At the crossroads of life and what remains
sound teachings and instruction hold steadfast.
As I come to terms with this journey before us,

all doubts and fears are cast aside alas.
His perfect love will carry us all the way.
All part of the plan as you taught me Dad.

Author's Comment;
My Father had just suffered from a heart stroke. Unable to put a sentence together cohesively, and struggling with each word; A heart wrenching experience and  a time for reflection inspired these verses penned for my Dad.

104...Sonnet LXVI

I love when she kisses me I must admit.
And in her joy the way she embraces me.
When she offers an uncompromising smile
at the little things I so do willingly.

I admire her wisdom beyond reproach.
Unchallenged confidence and humble demeanor.
How her eyes glisten with loving glee
when touched by adoring gestures.

Carefree loving and considerate thoughts
I bring upon this wonder as second nature.
What she does to me without doing anything

I confess there is great pleasure.
If this is all but a dream please take it not.
Kiss me once more and make it last forever

103...Sonnet LXV

Being in love happens more than once.
To love in general, in many levels.
Most ideal is to love all the time.
To love a rainbow, truly something special.

In the affairs of man and woman
with a sordid array of wants and needs,
to love in increments of percentages
is the recommended dose and speed.

Never a hundred lest the pain of it all
distorts your perception of a dream.
When heartbreak comes unexpectedly

based on the expectations you believed,
it will come as no surprise to be relieved
it was not a hundred percent just fifty.

102...Sonnet LXIV

I love how I understand how
not as you expect I suspect.
More or less than I may never know
but I can tell you what you expect.

I can say “I love you” without lying
till somebody unequivocally
can claim it to be otherwise.
Does it mean the same when you say it to me?

I wonder if you feel the same
and do as I do, give the best answer.
As in a game show to win a short-lived prize

thinking to ourselves love is all that matters.
Are we both on the same page?
Or is this what you call a complicated matter.

101...Sonnet LXIII

“I love you” she declared boldly to me
looking into the window of my soul.
Expecting me to respond I spoke not,
this time around I’m mindful not to boast.

To satisfy the parameters of her curiosity
a smile sealed with a kiss offered a delay.
The heart and mind reason with each other
as I listened to the voice inside me say;

“I learned how to speak these words with her.
Should I expect someone to match her fame?”
“I love you” was always dressed with joy,

now a different rendition is at play.
Though strange it may be second time around
I respond with no lie…but it’s just not the same.
